Everyone should watch

this is my dream after I adopt a lion

First Post!

I don't really know what to do with these things and I'm about as technologically advanced as a grandma so this will be interesting. On the fifteenth of January I leave for South Africa and then head off to Namibia where I will be studying abroad for the semester. My concentration for my major is race and reconciliation and I will be researching why Namibia did not use the truth and reconciliation commission to help them reconcile their country. A brief background on Southern Africa, Namibia was a colony of South Africa until 1990 at which point the SWAPO resistance group (the people running the government today took power). Up until that point they to had an apartheid government instead of taking part in the TRC they just declared themselves reconciled. During my time in Namibia I will be exploring the implications of this decision on the Namibian society and exploring the impacts of race on their society. I will also be learning how to live in a new culture and updating you all on my experiences along the way.

Now that that is out of the way.  Ah!!! it's two weeks until I leave and I'm just now realizing minor details I forgot about, you know the usual, whether or not we will have purified water or not because I was more focused on whether or not I could make friends with lions while there or if I would have peanut butter; these are obviously the most important things. More importantly I forgot to think about how my clothes were going to make it from point A to point B, and i've come to the depressing realization that I may not be able to bring ten pairs of shoes or all 50 of my t-shirts. It's going to be tough to leave so much of my stuff behind.

Whelp I'm off to spend the rest of my day deciding whether or not to facebook friend the kids in my program because I JUST WANT FRIENDS!!!

Later!
